THE EFFECTIVENESS OF KAFFIR LIME PEEL EXTRACT (Citrus hystrix) ON PLASMA MALONDIALDEHYDE LEVEL IN DEMENTIA MICE

ABSTRACTBackground: Antioxidant is a substance that can catch and neutralize free radicals so the process of oxidative stress be stopped cell damage avoided. Kaffir lime peel contains antioxidant compounds have potential to neuroprotective agent protect neurons from radical-induced damage.Objective: To evaluate effect kaffir extract (Citrus hystrix) on plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) level mice induced by Scopolamine (SCM).Method: This research was true experimental study with post-test-only controlled group design. Thirty were randomly divided into 5 groups consisting healthy control (K+), Negative Control (K-), mg/20gBW (P1), 10 (P2), 20 (P3). SCM injected intraperitoneally days 1-7 given orally 2-7, MDA levels testing using TBARS method day 8. Data analysis used One-Way ANOVA test continued Post Hoc LSD test.Results: The mean K+, K-, P1, P2, P3 4,212; 4,644; 3,481; 4,555; 4,733 nmol/mL, respectively.
